Victory
It was a tough but inspiring year for the devoted soccer
players of Everett High. This year, unlike the past, was one in
which the crimson, not only won a game but had the potential
of winning ways. This young but aggressive team was led by
the three co-captains Arthur Durkin, Vincent Pacceca and
John Amoroso. The team's record for the season was 1-11-
□. But this is merely a record. In many games, they played
hard, they played well, and most important they played as a
team.
They knew at the onset of the season that they wouldn't
have eleven standout players, but they built on what talent
was available. This year's team was a team made up of guts
and determination. This was exemplified by their first win in
two years. In Everett's first game against Maiden, the team
really showed its desire. It was a brisk afternoon game at
Edith Street Park, where the Crimson was to do battle
against Maiden. Right from the tip off, Everett High School
took over the momentum of the game by bombarding the
Maiden goal with shots. Maiden committed a penalty result-
ing in a penalty shot for the crimson. The shooter, Vincent
Pacceca, wasted no time in placing the shot in the corner of
the net to make the score 1 -□ E. H. S. Later in the second
quarter Maiden made another fatal mistake resulting in another
penalty shot for Everett High School, once again Vincent
Pacceca rose to the occasion and placed the ball in back of
the net, just inside the post. Itwasnow2-0, Everett High! In
the third quarter excellent defensive efforts by Robert Fitz-
patrick. Rich Hannefant, and Mike Brown, held Maiden from
scoring. In the closing minutes of the fourth quarter the
Crimson scored its fourth and final goal on a chip shot from
Arthur Durkin to Domingo Gonzalez.
Although the rest of the games didn't go as well, this sea-
son foreshadowed the coming of a potentially successful
soccer program at E. H.S.

The 1 9B2 Croas Country team completed its sea
son on a successful note by winning the Sauguj
V. F. W. Cross Country Roadrace for the fourth year
in a row. Captain Pat Green, Jim Price, Jim Harvey
Rich Cummlngs and Glen Anbreg ran well and scoreci
the necessary points for Everett's victory. The fu-
ture of Everett's Cross Country program looks
promising because only two seniors are graduating.
Sophomore Jim Price and Jim Harvey ran well and
scored consistently all year. Other underclassmen
who gained valuable experience and will return next
year are Glen Aubreg, Dan Harvey, John McCarthy,
Peter Porcaro and John DeVito.
The girls team was led by captain Janice Doherty
who was selected to the G. B. L. All Star team Janice
had an outstanding season. She ran very well and
was the most consistent scorer for the team. She
finished up with very strong performances in the
G. B L. league meet and under very adverse condi-
tions in the Eastern Mass State meet at Franklin
Perk. Senior Tracey Skane was a consistent scorer
and ran very strong all season. The remaining team
members are all underclassmen who participated
well end gained valuable experience for next year.
They are Ellen Meniger, Deanna Devanna, Vickie
Skane, Christine DeVito. Rebeca Kanan and Mar-
garet Neal.

Rob DiBiase, Rich Colarusso, Sean Casey.
Coach Tom Gibson and Assistant Coach Herb
Lawrence met an eager group of skaters for this
year's varsity hockey program. Having lost an
all-star goalie and an all-star defenseman, Coach
Gibson knew the season was in trouble. Everett
high spirit and determination took command of a
not too promising season and underclassmen
skaters and seasoned juniors turned the pro-
gram into a possible tourney bound club. Junior
goalie Peter Maggio, after a few shaky starts
took charge of the nets and of this writing had
three shutouts to his credit in eleven games. Se-
nior defenseman John DeGregorio took charge
of the back corps and proved that his previous
year experience was all he needed to become one
of the best defensemen in the league. Four year
starter Mark LeDonne continued his stellar play
and led the first line down the season with his
scoring touch and play making ability. Right along
side of LeDonne was wing man Mike Castano still
hustling and grabbing of scramble goals making
him second scorer in the league through eleven
games. Surprise of the year was Frank McCor-
^mick who came along so fast as a defenseman,
that his skating ability shot him to a forward posi-
tion on the first line. His style of play com-
plemented LeDonne and Castano and made this
line the scourge of the league. Surprise number
two was that Sean Casey lad who gave fits to
opposing players with his touch, hustling checking
game. Captain D.J. Harrington led his charges by
being the indefatiguable skater and checker. His
hitting put the enemy off guard on many line shifts
and his desire to win was contagious among the
squad. Rounding out the squad were such great
contributors as Marty OToole, Mark Fronduto,
and Tommy Anderson. Late season injuries put
crimp in the team's skating and defensive
strength, but, when this is read it is hoped the
Everett will have qualified for the Tourney in East-
ern Mass hockey play. Additional juniors and
sophomores who saw and varied service, all an
integral part of the team pride were Dowd,
DiBiase, Maiuri, Smith, Colarusso, P. Maiuri, and
two freshmen, both of whom saw limited service,
goalie Imbrescia and forward Sabella. At this
point in the season Everett's record is 9-2 with
the team scoring 53 goals, an average of almost
five per game, while Maggio and the defense were
allowing only 3G goals, or an average circa 2.7
goals per game. LeDonne and Castano are both in
the running for league scoring honors and at least
five players could be under consideration for all
star ranking in the league.

The Everett Field Hockey team finished tl
season 3-S-3 oven-all and 3-B-1 league. Tl
final two gannes of the season were two of tN
most exciting and encouraging. Against Re-
vere, Everett came from behind to score twice
with less than two minutes in the game, defeat-
ing Revere 2-1 , then against Medford, Everett
scored with less than six seconds on the clock
to come out on top 1 -□. On offense the varsity
was lead by co-captain Sharon Bucchiere who
finished the season with 3 goals and 5 assists,
Kat Kisich with four goals, and Eileen Peddle led
our team with seven assists. The defense, led
by co-captain Susan Fleet showed continuouss
and steady improvement in their individual asl
well as team play. *
The Junior Varsity team finished B-7-1.
Michelle Mongeon was their high scorer with
1 2 goals and one assist. |
After many long, hard hours practicing ana
playing this difficult sport, everyone was very
encouraged with the progress made by the
team. The Field Hockey team was a large num-
ber of young, new players who will be returning
next season. It hopes to add more players and
through long practice and much running im-
prove their record. Sharon Bucchiere and Ei-
leen Peddle were chosen to the G.B.L. 1 st All ^
Star Team and Susan Fleet to the 2nd All Star
Team.

Leading the Crimson into the 1 9S2-S3 G.B.L. Basket-
ball wars will be the tri-captains Kathy Kisich, Sharon Buc-
chiere and Ruthie Boudreau. Each of these girls was a
starter in last years squad which became the first girls'
team in any sport in Everett to qualify for post-season play.
In Kat Kisich and Ruthie Boudreau, the tide will have a
strong one-two punch at guard. Both girls' are adept offen-
sive players and will work hard on the defensive end. Sharon
Bucchiere provides a strong inside game for this years
Crimson squad. The other Everett starters are Jean
Casey and Eileen Reddle. Both girls are being counted on to
provide defense and rebounding for the usually small Crim-
son starting five. As with those starters named the start-
ing five gained their places by the aggressive defense and
smart basketball that each performed.
Everett will also have experience in the back-up positions.
Michelle Mazzei and Kim Donnaruma have earned a varsity
letter in the past. Both girls are expected to make strong
connections. Karen McKenzie and Jean Casey will give the
tide further experience.
There will be five newcomers to the girls varsity team.
The strong junior is a forward named Nancy Mitchell. She is
the aggressive player who is returning after losing las'
season to an injury. Sophomore Pauline Galbraith and
Michelle Mongeon will lend depth at both guard positions.
Freshmen Janet Colameta and Ram Griffin are talented
athletes who seem destined to work their way into a regu-
lar role in the near future.

The Crimson hoopsters were led by tri-captains and returning starters
Mark Fialii, Steve Pendenza, and Ed Zanor. Mark Fialli the only player in Tide
basketball history to win a letter as a freshman, is a B'3" point guard who can
perform magic with the basketball. Steve Pendenza, at B'4", led last years
squad in rebounds and is an offensive killer inside. Ed Zanor, a 5' 1 □" sharp-
shooter, led the team in assists and provides the emotional heart of the
Everett squad.
There are others who helped carry the winning tradition over into the
1 982-B3 season. Paul Donatio, a power forward and last years super
sixth man, has shown great improvement and will challenge anyone inside.
Peter Chiarello, also this years football captain and standout, is an aggres-
sive defender with a shooting touch. Scott Noonan, a senior guard, has
shown a zone-breaking shooting touch. Paul Barry, a G'^" center, will give
depth to a strong rebounding front line. Varsity newcomers competing for
playing time include: Scott Conway, Joe Bucchiere, Bill Dana, Ed Barbanti,
and Jay Rhoton.

The longest yard
This year's edition of the Crimson Tide
finished at a disappointing 2-'7-1 . However,
with a few breaks the Tide's record could have
been easily reversed. Co-captains Paul Stra-
han and Peter Chiarello enjoyed outstanding
seasons. Strahan as a running back gaining
over 1,DOO yards as well as being a G. B.L.
All-Star and Chiarello as a tremendous out-
side linebacker and guard. Calling signals for
the Tide was Junior Paul Guskiewicz, whose
running and throwing talents made him a valu-
able asset to the Tide's attack. At ends for
the Crimson were Paul Donatio and John
Siracuse. Donatio had a great season making
several circus catches, winning the Jeffrey
Jewelers Award, and was a G. B. L. All-Star as
a safety. Siracuse had a fine season himself,
he also played defensive end and won the
Manganaro Award [given to the outstanding
lineman in the Everett-Medf ord game).
Everett's linemen were: Paul Redmond, Eric
Anderson, Chris Buckley, Mark Shuman,
Scott McAdam, and Tony Robillard. The
Everett's secondary was led by Ken Mayo
who had a great year as a defensive back also
in Everett's secondary were John Dowd and
Pat English. The Tide had some fine running
backs also: Dave Masiello, Tom DiNapoli, Pat
English, and Chuck Gibson all had fine sea-
sons rushing the ball for Everett. Despite
these fine athletes, the Tide couldn't put it all
together, but the team itself stayed together
and showed true pride in Everett High football
and the city itself. Departing seniors for the
Crimson Tide are: Marc Shuman, Peter
Chiarello, Scott MacAdam, Ken Mayo, Tony

Siracuse, Paul Strahan, Paul Redmond,
Chuck Gibson, Tom DiNapoli, Mark Sawyer,

The Sound of Music
The EveretC High School 1 3S2-B3 Band
The Everect High School Band stanced ics season working hard at rehearsals to get
prepared for the football season. When it came time for the football season to begin, the
band was ready and rearing to go. The performance of their half time shows consisted of
such songs as "Blaze of Glory", "In the Mood", "Eye of the Tiger". "Hill Street Blues", and
"Notre Dame", There were some new instruments added to the band this year, they were
mellophones, valved trombones, and piccolos. This year's band has proved themselves to
be better than those of the past, as they vividly illustrated at each football game and played
up a storm.
On Veterans Day, the band showed much enthusiasm playing patriotic music at the
Everett Armory for those veterans who wanted to pay tribute to their friends and relatives
lost at war.
After the football season, Christmas was right around the corner. The Band started
practicing carols for the tree lighting ceremony they attended, and for their concert at the
Centre School. The tree lighting ceremony was a success in which the band brought the
Christmas season closer. Later on m the month of December, the band played their
concert at the Centre School. In which the children and teachers enioyed very much. That
concert was the last for the year of 1 9B2. To ring in the next year, the band started
practicing pieces for the Tn-city concert which was held at the Everett High School on
March 23, 1 9B3. The other bands which participated in this concert were the Revere High
School and the Chelsea School Band. The concert went over well with Everett raising the
roof tops with their superb )ob. After that concert, it was time to start practicing music for
the Everett Spring concert which was held at Everett High School on May A. This concert
included selections from the Parlin Junior High School band and chorus, plus the Everett
High School band and chorus.
The officers for the 1 9S2-S3 band were as follows; President — Richard Rigolini,
Vice-president — Michael DeMattio, Secretary — Kelly Kenan, Treasurer — Lisa Sinatra.
The music teachers that led the EHS band are. Music Co-ordinator John DeVito, Brass
Instructor John Sullivan, and Woodwind Instructor Gary Moniz.

The Everett High School Boy's Tennis
Team is lool<ing forward to a successful
season. This year the team is co-
captained by Frank McCormick and Pat
Green.
Green was the team's number one
singles player last year, and McCor-
mick, who was paired with returning se-
nior Frank Campagna, was one of the
top doubles teams in the Greater Bos-
ton League last season.
Coach Peddle also expects much
from junior letterman Ken Lane, who
has alternated at both singles and dou-
bles and junior Steven Feinberg, who is
expected to help fill the void created by
the departure of Rich Perillo, Paul Fabri-

Mn. Lawrence A. Vozella, a resident of
Everett for over AO years, graduated
from Everett High School in 1 95^ . Af-
ter serving with the SSth Infantry Batta-
lion in Korea for 1 6 months, he con-
tinued his education at Salem State Col-
lege, where he received his Bachelor of
Science in Education in 1 SBO. At Salem
State, Mr. Vozella majored in English
studies and earned honor's as a Dean's
List student.
Following his graduation from Salem
State College, Mr. Vozella served as a
substitute teacher at Everett High
School for two years and continued his
studies at Boston University until he
was appointed a full-time teacher of En-
glish in 1 36S. He has been a member of
the faculty at EHS over the last 20
years.
In 1 372, Mr. Vozella and the late John
Boy C1 933) reorganized the "E" Club of
Everett, which is organization of former
and present varsity athletes at EHS.
The present organization has served
500 dues-paying members throughout
the country. Mr. Vozella served as pres-
ident of the "E" Club for two terms and
has served as director of the "E" Club
since 1 QVA. According to Mr. Vozella.
His proudest achievement as an "E" Club
officer was the formation of the "E" Club
Scholarship foundation, which has
awarded SS1.500 to 43 deserving
scholar-athletes from EHS since 1 373.
Another noteworthy achievement of
Mr. Vozella at EHS was realized during
his position as advisor of The Crimsarii
the school newspaper, for two years. In
1 973, The Crimson was awarded a
third place in Class One competition
among S50 school newspapers
throughout New England. The following
year. The Crimson captured a second
place award for scholastic editing and
publishing among 250 school newspap-
ers. This is the highest award the school
newspaper has ever received at EHS.
Mr. Vozella's outside interests span a
large varied field. He is a member of the
National Council of Teachers of English,
the Dante Allighieri Society, the Italian-
American Association of Everett, the
Everett Lodge of Elks, the American Red
Cross Blood Services, the Everett
Teacher's Association, and the "E" Club
of Everett. In addition, he served as the
chairman of the Everett Stadium and
Athletic Field Commission for two years
under Mayor James Plunkett.
Mr. Vozella is a strong advocate of
Aristotle's belief that it is worthwhile for
many human beings to condut a sys-
tematic inquiry into every aspect of the
natural world. Following Aristotle, he
lists Dante Alighieri and William
Shakespeare. Mr. Vozella acquieseces
with T. S. Eliot's view that Dante and
Shakespeare divide the literary world
between them, their is no third.
His parting words to the Class of

Mr. Louis Baldi is a 1 966 graduate of Everecc High School. From
Everett he attended Boston College where he maintained an "A/B"
average in his major. He later went on to receive his Masters degree
from Salem State College and thirty credits beyond at various
schools of higher education.
Louis Baldi. an eleven year veteran of teaching feels that both
learning and teaching are growing experiences. "When I first started
teaching" says Mr. Baldi. "I became over involved with the facts of my
subject rather than the communication of ideas that would give stu-
dents a better understanding of their world. Now what matters most
to me is that my students react to concepts.
Mr. Baldi had an interest in history since his early days in grammer
school. "History serves several purposes" he says, "it reveals an
appreciation of the past. It is an interpretation of the greatest ideas
of mankind, found through the process of analysis. Studying history is
a mental discipline. It's a mind exercise. "
Mr. Baldi who has a complete knowledge of many famous historical
figures, feels that the ones that should be admired most are those
who helped make the world a better place for all men. "A good political
leader", he states "is someone whose policies vary with the time but
who consistently makes decisions relative to the natural rights of all
Individuals. "
"If students are able to make a quick connection between the past
and what is happening around them, they are more interested. " This
is the reason Louis Baldi feels that the 1 9th century is the most
enjoyable to teach. "I try to teach that students have a responsibility
to themselves and the society around them.
As demonstrated through his teaching methods, Mr. Baldi feels
that a good teacher is someone who is dedicated to his students not
only to his subject matter. "A teacher's function is to work for the
overall development of his students not simply the preservation of
history. " Besides teaching history, Louis Baldi coaches the Everett
High School Girls Basketball Team. "Coaching is no different than
teaching" says the experienced coach, "Just as a teacher watches a
student develop a sense of responsibility and other skills, an athletic
coach sees the same maturation occur".
When asked what advice he would like to give to the graduates of
1 9B3. Mr. Baldi said "Each person should try to establish goals for
himself and to strive to achieve them in a way that allows him to
become a better person and hopefully in a way that allows him to
make a contribution to others. "

Mr. Leo Kutnubes is a gradu-
ate of Peabody High School.
AfCer graduation he went on to
Tufts School of Engineering
where he earned his Bachelor
of Science degree. This veter-
an teacher also boasts attend-
ing prestigious schools such
as Boston University and Har-
vard. Experience is the key fac-
tor when talking about the
great success that Leo Kut-
rubes has with his students.
He first entered the field of
teaching in the Air Force then
went on to practice his craft at
Boston University. But for the
past twenty six years Everett
High School has had the privi-
lege of receiving the services
of this fine teacher. When it
comes to Chemistry there is
none more knowlegeable than
Mr. Kutrubes.
When asked why he decided
to make science his career Leo
Kutrubes answered, "I have al-
ways had an attitude for learn-
ing new ideas and discovering
the mysteries that make
things work. " Mr. Kutrubes
feels that science's most im-
portant contribution to the ed-
ucation of a youth is its ability
to develop an analytical mind in
a student. This skill once de-
veloped through the study of
Science, " he says, "can later
be applied to learning related
to all fields. "
Many people feel that al-
though Science and its dis-
coveries can be given credit for
great strides forward in the
history of human civilization it
also has been responsible for
the development of many des-
tructive weapons. When asked
to respond to this statement
Mr. Kutrubes said, "The con-
tributions made by science far
out-weight any negative
aspects that have been
associated with it. In fact it is
not the study or application of
science that can be faulted,
rather it is the misuse of know-
lege that must be discredited. "
Outside of school Mr. Kut-
rubes works as a consulting
chemist dealing mainly with
work in the field of hematology.
"This keeps me pretty busy, "
he says, "but I make sure that I
find time to relax by going
fishing as often as possible.
His advice to the class of
1 3B3 relates to the field of
study he loves so much and
has dedicated his life to: "If you

Science don't procrastinate,

Mr. Joseph Bognore became in-
terested in cabinet making as a youth
when at age twelve he became an
apprentice. After worl<ing as an appren-
tice for five years until his high school
graduation Mr. Bognore joined the Unit-
ed States Marine Corps and traveled to
various parts of the world in the service
of his country.
The skill and training which later be-
came the foundation for his teaching
ability was attained during his eight
years of on the job training. His ability
and value to the Everett Vocational
School over the last twenty-seven years
has been manifested through the
achievements of his students. In 1 98 1
Mr. Bognore directed Joseph lanuzzi to
a first prize victory in the Popular
Mechanicals Cabinet making contest.
The Duncan Fife Drop Leaf table con-
structed by this talented student is in
Mr. Bognore's opinion the most admir-
able achievement of his shop.
The success of the Everett Vocational
Cabinet program is probably best dis-
played by its ability to place all graduating
cabinet makers in a related job.
When confronted with a man with the
talent of Mr. Bognore one may wonder
why he has decided to teach rather than
persue cabinet making as a full time ca-
reer. In his words Joe Bognore says, "I
enjoy teaching very much. I get a thrill
out of watching the development of a
student from a novice to the ultimate
mastery of his trade. Besides, I do have
a shop of my own at home where I am
self employed as a contractor and furni-
ture maker. "
His advice for the 1 983 graduating
class is typical of this laconic man: "If you
know what you like to do. you will enjoy
your work and persue it with all your
efforts. "
